ASSISTANT DIRECTOR - INFRASTRUCTURE SERVICES

The Municipality of Wawa is seeking an employee who wants to live, work and mostly play in a small, Northern Ontario community that offers tons of recreational and social opportunities. We are looking for someone who excels in a team environment and is excited to learn and grow as the Assistant Director of Infrastructure Services knowing the opportunity of becoming the Department’s Director is a strong possibility a few years down the road.

Wawa is just over two hours from Sault Ste. Marie and is located along the north shore of Lake Superior in a spectacular setting surrounded by the boreal forest, clean lakes and an expanding gold mining industry.  As the Assistant Director of Infrastructure Services, the employee will be responsible for a variety of tasks including overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department which includes scheduling, staff supervision, roads maintenance, water and sewer services, airport, landfill and fleet management.  The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the Director and team of dedicated, unionized employees to achieve the modernization of services for the benefit of residents, as well as helping the Director of Community Services when needed.

The Municipality of Wawa seeks a candidate who is adaptable and will motivate and empower team members. He/she must have a demonstrated track record of effective team building and relationship management skills and a proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across departments and with the public.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

 

    1. Must have five (5) years municipal experience and a grade 12 diploma or a combination of experience and a post-secondary school degree in civil engineering or related discipline.
    2. Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
    3. Must be a team-player with excellent organizational and supervisory skills.
    4. Must be mechanically inclined and capable of analyzing difficult situations and making appropriate decisions in the best interest of the municipality.
    5. Must maintain composure in stressful or adverse situations.
    6. Must have general knowledge of road and utility construction and maintenance.
    7. Must have general knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures.
    8. Must have excellent interpersonal and public relation skills.
    9. Must operate in a computerized environment.
    10. Must be prepared to work extended and unusual hours when required.

SALARY RANGE (2021): $73,000 – $87,000 plus generous benefit package.
