Information for voters

The voters’ list will be prepared on September 1, 2022. If you want to add, remove, or change your listed information on or after September 1, you must contact the municipal clerk.  

You need to be on the voter’s list to vote in a municipal council or school board election.

You can add yourself, confirm or update your personal information, change your school support for the purpose of elections and add other electors under your address.

You are required to show identification to vote. If your name is on the voters’ list, you will be required to show one piece of identification that has your name and address. Your photo or signature is not required. See the list of acceptable documents for voter identification.

The information also applies to any by-elections that may be held during the 2022-2026 council and school board term.

Information for candidates 

The nomination period begins on May 1, 2022. As May 1 is a Sunday, you may not be able to file a nomination until May 2, 2022 when the clerk’s office is open.

The deadline to file a nomination to be a council or school trustee candidate is Friday, August 19, 2022 at 2 p.m.

May 2, 2022: Candidate Nomination Period opens

Register to run for your local government. Nominations may be filed up to August 18, 2022 between 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday at the Municipal Office with the Clerk, located at 40 Broadway Avenue, Wawa. 

August 19, 2022: Candidate Nomination Period Closes – Nomination Day 

Individuals interested in running as a candidate in the 2022 municipal election have until August 19 to file their nomination papers at the Municipal Office with the Clerk located at 40 Broadway Avenue, Wawa between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. This is also the last day a candidate may withdraw their nomination. 

August 22, 2022: Certification of Nomination Papers

The validity of all nomination papers is certified by the Municipal Clerk by 4:00 p.m. If there are any candidates that are declared elected by acclamation (ie. no other candidates running for same position), a list will be posted at the Municipal Office soon after 4:00 p.m. 

September 2022: Voters List made available 

The list of eligible voters will be available for election purposes only. To protect personal information, public viewing of the voters must be supervised. 

September 26 – October 24, 2022: Internet/Telephone voting registration period opens 

Registration to vote via the internet/telephone opens.

October 11-24, 2022: Internet/Telephone Voting period 

Internet/telephone voting begins at 10:00 a.m. October 11 and ends at 8:00 p.m. on October 24.

October 24, 2022: Internet/Telephone Voting Registration Closes 

Registration to vote via the internet/telephone closes. 

October 21, 2022: Third Party Registration filing 

Last day for third party advertisers to file their notice of registration. 

October 23, 2022: Notice of Penalties 

Last day to provide candidates and third party advertisers with notice of penalties related to campaign finances and the refund of the nomination filing fee.

October 24, 2022: Voting Day

Voting place is open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

Week of October 24, 2022: Official Results Declared 

The Municipal Clerk declares the official election results. 

November 15, 2022: Inaugural Meeting of Council 

New Council is sworn in at the Inaugural meeting of the New Council.
