WAWA GIVES A HONK: Iconic Wawa Goose Helps Launch National Petro-Canada CareMakers Campaign

Wawa, Ontario – September 1, 2026 – The Municipality of Wawa was thrilled to welcome representatives from Petro-Canada and the Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation to Wawa this morning for the official launch of the national “Give A Honk” campaign - with Wawa’s most famous resident taking centre stage.

In a first-of-its-kind temporary installation, the iconic Wawa Goose has been transformed in support of the Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation and its work to raise awareness and support for family caregivers across Canada. The Municipality of Wawa is proud to have one of the community’s most recognizable landmarks play such a special role in launching a national campaign dedicated to an important cause.

“The Wawa Goose has welcomed generations of residents and visitors to our community, so seeing it become part of a national campaign supporting family caregivers is incredibly special,” said Mayor Melanie Pilon. “We are honoured that Petro-Canada and the CareMakers Foundation chose Wawa to help launch Give A Honk. It is a wonderful opportunity to share a little piece of Wawa with Canadians across the country while helping shine a light on the important contributions caregivers make every day.”

Throughout the month of September, Canadians can join the campaign by visiting a participating Petro-Canada location and purchasing a $1 Goose Keychain. For every keychain purchased, Petro-Canada will donate $3 to the Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation, helping support its work to improve the lives of family caregivers. For Wawa, the campaign represents a unique connection between a nationally recognized Canadian brand, an important charitable cause and a landmark that has become synonymous with the community.

The Municipality was delighted to participate in this morning’s unveiling and extends its appreciation to Petro-Canada and the Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation for choosing Wawa as the location to launch this special initiative. Residents and visitors are encouraged to take in the temporary installation at the Wawa Goose and participate in the campaign throughout September.
