Garbage and Recycling

Curbside Recycling in Wawa

The Municipality of Wawa is pleased to announce the introduction of curbside recycling collection for eligible residential properties.

The introduction of curbside recycling in Wawa is part of a province-wide initiative mandated by the Government of Ontario under the Blue Box Regulation (O. Reg. 391/21). This legislation transfers responsibility for residential recycling programs from municipalities to the producers of recyclable materials.

The program is administered by Circular Materials, which oversees recycling services, collection schedules and program requirements. While the Municipality of Wawa supports this initiative and will assist in sharing information with residents, the program is provincially mandated and is not under municipal control.

This new service will provide residents with convenient recycling opportunities while helping reduce waste and promote a cleaner, more sustainable community.

Place only accepted recyclable materials in your recycling containers. Give containers a quick rinse to remove food residue. Ensure materials are clean, dry and loose rather than bagged. Lids can remain on containers. Follow the program's guidance for labels and other packaging components.

To help prevent recyclable materials from blowing away, stack your recycling bins on windy days. Ensure materials are securely contained and place your bins where they will not obstruct sidewalks, roads or pedestrian access.

Residents with a permanent or temporary physical disability that makes it difficult to set out their recycling may be eligible for assisted collection service. A physician's note is required to apply. For information about eligibility and how to request assistance, contact Emterra at customercareont@emterra.ca or 1-888-597-1541.
