Municipality of Wawa Welcomes Release of Net Zero Action Pathway Report
Wawa, ON — The Municipality of Wawa is pleased to announce the release of the Net Zero Action Pathway Report, developed by QUEST Canada through a collaborative community engagement and planning process.
The report outlines a community-driven pathway toward a more sustainable, resilient, and energy-secure future for Wawa. It reflects the priorities, ideas, and aspirations shared by residents, businesses, community organizations, and partners during the public visioning session held in June 2025.
Wawa's project was part of QUEST Canada's broader Motivating Net Zero Action in Rural, Remote and Indigenous Communities (MNZA) initiative, which supported communities across Canada in developing locally driven pathways toward a more sustainable future. Residents interested in learning more about the national project, participating communities, and overall findings can visit the QUEST Canada MNZA project webpage at https://questcanada.org/mnza/.
The Municipality would like to extend its sincere thanks to everyone who participated in that visioning session. Your insights, experiences, and ideas helped shape this report and its recommendations. The accompanying Graphic Recording created during the session serves as a visual representation of the many conversations, opportunities, challenges, and aspirations that were shared by participants.
The Net Zero Action Pathway Report highlights opportunities for strengthening local energy systems, building community partnerships, improving energy efficiency, supporting local decision-making, and enhancing resilience to future challenges. The process also included the development of a Community Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory and Net-Zero Modelling Baseline, which provides valuable data to help guide future planning and decision-making.
“We are grateful to QUEST Canada and all community members who contributed their time and perspectives throughout this process,” said Maggie Culhane, EDO. “This report provides a strong foundation for future planning and action. We look forward to integrating its recommendations, along with the GHG modelling results, into municipal strategies, projects, and decision-making as we continue building a sustainable and prosperous future for Wawa.”
Residents are encouraged to review the Net Zero Action Pathway Report and accompanying materials on the municipal website at Energy & Green Initiatives | Municipality of Wawa to learn more about the community vision and opportunities identified through the process.
