Waterfalls
Scenic Magpie High Falls
Just minutes from town, this powerful waterfall plunges dramatically over a rocky cliff, making for an excellent photo opportunity. There's a viewing platform and parking nearby along with a picnic shelter and washrooms.
How to get there: From Wawa, follow Highway 17 south towards Sault Ste. Marie, then turn right off of the highway (look for signage – near the Algoma Highlands Blueberry Farm). The falls are located at the end of the dirt road.
Tucked along the Magpie River, Silver Falls is a beautiful and lesser-known gem, ideal for a short nature walk and some peaceful time by the water.
How to get there: Head south on Highway 17 towards Sault Ste Marie from Wawa, turn right off of the highway to Michipicoten River Village. (follow directional signage) A short trail from the parking area leads to the falls.
Located just south of Wawa in Lake Superior Provincial Park, Sand River Falls is a must-see for hikers and photographers. These cascading falls are accessible via the Pinguisibi Trail, which follows an old portage route rich in Indigenous and fur trade history.
This small but charming cascade is close to town and perfect for a quick stop. It’s particularly scenic during spring melt or after heavy rain.
How to get there: Located within town limits, follow Highway 17 towards Sault Ste Marie until you see a sign for Michipicoten River Village, turn right and follow the signage through the village to the bridge crossing Wawa Creek—the falls are just upstream.
Beaches
A quiet beach on Wawa Lake, Lion’s Beach is a great swimming spot with gentle waters and a sandy shoreline.
How to get there: Lion's Beach is adjacent to Wawa's downtown. Look for the big red "Drill Rig" which is next to parking. A gentle path takes you down to the waters edge and connects you to the boardwalk along the Wawa Lake Waterfront. The boardwalk contains interpretive signage that educated on the boreal forest. A great stop for anyone looking for an easy way to stretch their legs and breathe in that fresh northern air.

How to get there: The Wawa Lake waterfront can be accessed by turning off of Main Street onto Wawa Street. Plenty of parking is available along the boardwalk.
One of Wawa’s most loved destinations, Sandy Beach on Lake Superior is a stunning expanse of sand, surf, and natural beauty. A beautiful pavilion shares information into local ecology and Indigenous heritage through interpretive signage.
How to get there: From Wawa, turn left towards Sault Ste. Marie on Highway 17. Turn right at the Michipicoten River Village sign. Follow directional signage through the Village. The dirt road is well maintained and leads directly to the beach parking area on the left hand side.
Parks
This small, peaceful park offers lake access, picnic spots, and a playground. It’s ideal for families looking to spend a quiet afternoon near the water.
Location: On the south shore of Wawa Lake, accessed via Wawa Street.
Located in the heart of Wawa, Queen’s Park is a lovely community green space with shade trees, benches, and a playground.
Location: Turn off Mission Road onto George Street. Roadside parking to access the park.
