Wawa Seniors and Youth Team up to put Senior Life Experiences and Lessons to Paper

The Municipality of Wawa received funding from the Government of Ontario through the Seniors Community Grant Program to deliver the Wawa Intergenerational Legacy Project. Led by Program Coordinator Colton Liddle, in partnership with the Wawa Goose Seniors Centre, the nine-session initiative brought together local seniors and youth to gather real-life stories that were transformed into a published book.

Through guided interviews held at the Wawa Goose Seniors Centre between November 9, 2025, and February 1, 2026, youth participants worked closely with seniors to document their stories, experiences, and life lessons. Each session began with 30 minutes of socialization, including snacks and beverages provided by Judy Pages’ Catering and card games to encourage engagement and create a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere. Participants worked collaboratively to edit the stories to ensure they accurately reflected each senior’s voice.

The project proved to be a meaningful success. Seniors and youth formed lasting connections while contributing to a shared community legacy. The result of their efforts is a published collection of senior stories that highlight lived experiences, resilience, and the life lessons gained over decades. Each participant of the project will receive a complimentary copy of the book as a small token for their commitment to the project. Copies of the book will also be donated to the Wawa Public Library and local schools. The Intergenerational Legacy Project stands as a testament to the value of storytelling, connection, and preserving local history for future generations.

A limited number of copies will be available for sale by donation at the Wawa Goose Seniors Club. If you have any additional questions or are interested in obtaining a copy of this exciting book, please contact the Wawa Goose Seniors Club at 705-856-7394.
