MEDIA RELEASE
February 20, 2026
Wawa, ON – On Friday, MPP Bill Rosenberg met with representatives from the Municipality of Wawa to congratulate the Municipality on receiving a $50,900 Capital grant last summer from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The OTF grant will support the construction of an accessible playground at Michipicoten River Village.
“This capital investment through the Ontario Trillium Foundation demonstrates our government’s commitment to building vibrant, inclusive community spaces. The new play equipment at Upper Mission Park will provide local families with a safe and accessible place for recreation, physical activity, and community connection.” MPP Bill Rosenberg Algoma-Manitoulin.
These funds bring the community one step closer to creating a fun, welcoming space where children of all abilities can play together. The new playground will include accessible play equipment and safety surfacing designed so that every child, including those with mobility challenges can join in the fun.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for this generous $50,900 investment in our community,” said Mayor Melanie Pilon. “The development of the Michipicoten River Village accessible playground reflects our commitment to building inclusive spaces where every child can participate fully. This project will have a lasting impact on families in Wawa and throughout our region.”
The accessible playground will enhance Michipicoten River Village as a gathering place for families and visitors. The project reflects the Municipality’s ongoing commitment to creating inclusive spaces that support healthy, active living. Work on the project is expected to move forward in 2026, with more details to be shared as plans progress.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested nearly $105M into 732 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
