Municipality of Wawa Honours Dorothy Egan with 2026 Civic Achievement Award
Wawa, ON — The Municipality of Wawa was proud to recognize longtime community volunteer Ms. Dorothy Egan as the recipient of the 2026 Civic Achievement Award during a special ceremony held recently in her honour.
Approximately 30 people were in attendance, including Dorothy’s friends, family members, and community supporters, all gathered to celebrate her decades of dedicated service to the community of Wawa. The presentation was made on behalf of Council, acknowledging Dorothy’s outstanding volunteerism and lasting impact on the community.
Dorothy was nominated by a community member who felt strongly that her remarkable contributions deserved to be formally recognized. For decades, Dorothy has generously given her time and energy to a wide range of community initiatives, including community gardening, assisting seniors with garden maintenance, and helping with litter and debris cleanups throughout town and along Wawa’s waterfront. Her involvement has also been felt at the Wawa Goose Seniors Centre, the Royal Canadian Legion Wawa Branch, and St. Monica’s Church, where her kindness and reliability have strengthened community connections.
“Dorothy Egan represents the very best of what it means to be a community volunteer,” said Deputy Mayor Jim Hoffmann. “Her commitment to helping others, year after year, has had a lasting impact on Wawa. Dorothy shows us that strong communities are built by people who simply care and consistently show up for their neighbours.”
During the ceremony, Dorothy was presented with a framed goose print, a certificate, and a commemorative medal in recognition of her service and commitment to Wawa. Following the formal presentation, attendees remained to socialize and celebrate together while enjoying coffee, tea, and cake. The Civic Achievement Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to improving the quality of life in Wawa through volunteerism and community involvement. Dorothy Egan’s legacy of compassion, consistency, and care exemplifies the values this award represents.
The Municipality of Wawa extends its sincere congratulations and heartfelt thanks to Dorothy for her many years of service and for the positive difference she continues to make in the lives of others.
