PRESS RELEASE: DOROTHY EGAN SELECTED 2026 CIVIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD RECIPIENT

PRESS RELEASE – December 17, 2025

Wawa, Ontario – The Municipality of Wawa is very pleased to announce that Mrs. Dorothy Egan has been named the 2026 Civic Achievement Award recipient.

This annual award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and service to the community, and Dorothy exemplifies these qualities through her decades of volunteer work and caring for others through the years. Her contributions include coordinating community gardening projects, assisting many seniors and non-profit organizations with beautifying grounds and flower beds, volunteering in many ways including the Wawa Goose Seniors Centre, Royal Canadian Legion Wawa Branch and St. Monica’s Church, to name a few examples of a long list.

Mayor and Council expressed their gratitude for Dorothy’s unwavering commitment, noting that her efforts have enriched the lives of countless residents and strengthened the community spirit of Wawa, as well as those who are blessed to cross her path when making the announcement at their December 16^th Council Meeting.

“Dorothy’s dedication and generosity are an inspiration to us all,” said Mayor Melanie Pilon. “Her countless hours of volunteer work have touched every corner of our community, and we are very proud to present her with this award at a public ceremony to be held Thursday, January 8^th, 2026. This award is long overdue to be provided to Dorothy and I hope everyone will join us to say thank you!”.

The Civic Achievement Award to Dorothy Egan will be made at a ceremony scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on January 8^th in the downstairs Council Chamber at 40 Broadway Avenue, with cake and coffee to follow. Everyone is invited to attend.
