Notice: Winter Maintenance and Snow Clearing Notice

The Municipality of Wawa provides winter road maintenance services in accordance with the Municipal Act, 2001 and the Ontario Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways. These services are intended to maintain municipal roads in a condition that is safe and passable for public travel during winter weather events.

As part of normal winter maintenance operations, municipal snowplows remove snow and ice from roadways and push snow to the roadside. This process may result in snow and ice being deposited at driveway entrances, commonly referred to as windrows.

Windrows are an unavoidable result of municipal snow clearing operations and occur in all municipalities that provide winter road maintenance services. Due to the operational requirements of clearing roads and maintaining safe travel conditions, the Municipality cannot prevent snow and ice from accumulating at driveway entrances after plowing has occurred.

The Municipality of Wawa does not remove snow from private driveways or driveway entrances created during municipal snow clearing operations. Property owners are responsible for clearing snow from their driveways, including the portion located within the municipal road allowance.

The Municipality does not provide driveway windrow removal services and does not guarantee that driveway entrances will remain clear following plowing operations.

Residents who require assistance with snow removal are encouraged to contact local snow removal contractors operating within the community.

Municipal staff continue to review winter maintenance operations to improve service delivery where possible. Residents with concerns or suggestions are encouraged to contact the Municipality.
