Municipality of Wawa Recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Wawa, Ontario – October 9, 2025 – The Municipality of Wawa proudly stood alongside community members in solemn recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Municipal leaders and residents participated in the Truth and Reconciliation Walk to honour the survivors of Canada’s residential school system—including the family members of Wawa residents—and to remember the children who never returned home. The walk provided a moment of collective reflection and reaffirmed the community’s commitment to listening, learning, and walking forward together in a good way.

“This day reminds us of the ongoing journey toward healing and justice,” said Mayor Pilon. “We acknowledge the deep pain caused by residential schools, and we commit to being part of the path forward—one that is grounded in truth, respect, and reconciliation.”

The Municipality extends heartfelt gratitude to Michipicoten First Nation for their leadership and partnership in this important work. Through shared events like today’s walk, Wawa continues to grow as a community that values inclusion, understanding, and action.

“We are reconciliation in action. We are the future.”
