Municipality of Wawa ELECTIONS 2010 Compliance Audit Committee Members Needed
In accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, as amended, the Municipality of Wawa is seeking applications from interested individuals to serve on the Compliance Audit Committee for the 2010 Municipal Election. The Committee will review applications for a compliance audit of any candidate who ran for election to the Municipality of Wawa Council and decide whether the application should be granted or rejected. Should the application be granted, the Committee shall appoint an auditor to conduct the compliance audit, review the auditor's report and commence a legal proceeding against the candidate or make a finding that there were no reasonable grounds for the application.
The following criteria will be considered when appointing members:
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of municipal election campaign financial rules;
- Proven analytical and decision-making skills;
- Experience working on committees, task forces or similar settings;
- Demonstrated knowledge of quasi-judicial proceedings;
- Availability and willingness to attend meetings; and
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Members of the Committee shall be remunerated for their attendance at meetings and for their on-going review of background materials as may be provided by the Municipal Clerk.

Municipality of Wawa CURBSIDE GARBAGE NOTICE
We are currently experiencing a high volume of calls regarding garbage collection. To alleviate some of the problems, we would ask your co-operation and suggest the following: - That the garbage be placed at the curbside in the morning of the pick-up before 8:00 a.m., regardless of what time your garbage was picked up in the past.
- That the garbage be placed in containers that cannot be opened by birds and animals.
- A maximum of six (6) units may be placed at the curbside.
If your garbage has not been collected on its scheduled date, please contact the contractor at 856-4513.

Municipality of Wawa NOTICE OF ROAD CONSTRUCTION Klondike Street / Centennial Avenue Improvements
The Municipality of Wawa has awarded a contract to J. Provost Contracting Ltd. for the Klondike Street / Centennial Avenue Improvements Project. The work generally consists of the reconstruction of Klondike Street from Mission Road to Toronto Avenue and Centennial Avenue from Klondike Street to Winston Road. The project includes new storm sewers and appurtenances, a section of sanitary sewers and appurtenances on Centennial Avenue, sidewalks and restoration.
Starting May 10, 2010, Klondike Street and Centennial Avenue will be closed to through traffic until late September, 2010. Residents on Klondike Street and Centennial Avenue will be permitted access to their properties throughout the construction period. The map below shows the affected area. The public is encouraged to utilize alternative routes outside the construction area. For more information, please contact Larry Jackson, P. Eng. (address below).

2010 Municipal Elections ARE YOU INTERESTED IN RUNNING FOR PUBLIC OFFICE?
On Monday, October 25, 2010, the Municipality of Wawa will be conducting the Municipal Elections. Are you interested in running for Public Office? Nomination forms will be made available on January 4, 2010 for those persons wishing to seek a position on Municipal Council or School Board.
There is a $200 filing fee for the office of Mayor and a $100 filing fee for the office of Councillor or School Board Trustee.
The filing fee must be paid when you file your nomination paper and the payment must be cash or certified cheque or money order payable to "Municipality of Wawa".
Candidates qualified to file a Nomination must complete the prescribed nomination paper and declaration of qualification, and pay the required filing fee prior to 2:00 p.m. on Nomination Day, September 10, 2010.
Candidates for School Board offices are encouraged to contact the Office of the Director of Education of the appropriate School Board to obtain information on the duties and responsibilities of a Board Trustee.
Nomination papers can be picked up at the Municipal Offices, Municipality of Wawa, 40 Broadway Avenue, Wawa.
