Parks & Recreation
Five Year Recreation Plan The Municipality of Wawa is proud to maintain many open spaces for the pleasure and recreation in the community. The Municipality presently maintains four park locations including Queen’s Park, the Wawa Goose Park, Centennial Park, and the Centennial Sports Field which is located at the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre and contains two soccer fields and three baseball diamonds. Maintenance involved with these parks includes grass cutting and trimming, field lining, grounds maintenance, refuse pick-up, etc. Of the four park locations, all sites contain playground apparatus. It is the responsibility of the Parks & Recreation Staff to inspect on a monthly basis, and maintain these sites in compliance with C.S.A. standards. Also, the Parks & Recreation Department maintains the Wawa Lake waterfront (Harry Griffith Park and Rose’s Beach) and services the marina as well. Maintenance includes grass cutting, dock and building maintenance, and refuse pick-up. The Beatification Committee performs all initial planting and maintenance of the floral displays at the focus points around the Town. It is the Parks & Recreation Department’s responsibility for watering of these floral beds. During the winter months the Parks & Recreation Department maintain the curling and skating rink at the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre and snow removal and maintenance at municipal owned buildings.
